Langtang Region

The Langtang region, just north of Kathmandu, is the most accessible trekking region in Nepal and curiously under-rated. While it does not have the 8000m giants, it more than makes up for it with beautiful valleys, dramatic mountain scenery, the opportunity to climb small peaks and access to several glaciers. The valley is inhabited by Tamang people, who are very similar to Tibetans in their ways. Springtime trekking in this area is excellent for wildflowers, while in the autumn, the hills glow with the fiery colors of the berberi bushes.

This area is a great choice for those with less time or inclination to go to higher altitudes. Accommodation is good throughout the region and crowding is rarely a problem.  There are 3 principle treks in this region which stand on their own or, for those with more time, can be combined into a great circuit trek.  If possible, trekkers should allow for extra time in the region, as there are several areas that could be explored further on day trips.
