Overview:

Tamang heritage trek which is also known as Rasuwa trek is situated in the north of Kathmandu offering a fine blend of nature and culture. This newly opened route in the Lantang region offers the dramatic views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Kerung, Chimse Danda ridge crossed by Ganja la pass, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Paldor peak, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Shringi Himal etc. Apart from mountain vista the trail also takes us to the high altitude lakes like Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda. During the trek you will get a chance to explore the traditional Tamang villages, timeless monasteries, alpine terrain, green meadows and dense Rhododendron forest.

Tamang Heritage Trek starts from Syabrubesi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, Timure, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Langtang valley and Kyangjin Gompa. Langtang valley is protected under Langtang National Park which is also the second largest National park of the country. Trekking here does not require any prior hiking and trekking experience just normal walking is enough.

The people living in the area are believed to be the offspring of Tibetans from Kerung who intermingled with the local Tamang of the Helambu region. The people here mostly depend on agriculture and animal husbandry for livelihood. Trekking here can be done either in camping style or home stay and guest houses are available here too.

Itinerary Detail

Tamang Heritage Trekking Itinerary:

Day 1: Kathmandu Arrival
Our local representative will be receiving you in Tribhuwan International Airport and transfer to the hotel room. Get freshen up in the hotel and come to our office to finalize the formalities. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Today we will visit some of the world heritage site located in Kathmandu which includes Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa and Hindu temple of Pashupatinath. Stay overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi(1467m);7hours
Drive towards the north of Kathmandu through the scenic foothills offering the scrumptious panorama to Syabrubesi through Dhunche. In the road following the Trishuli River we will see the glimpse of Ganesh Himal. Stay overnight at guesthouse in Syabrubesi.

Day 4: Trek to Gatlang; 4-6hours
Leaving Syabrubesi behind us we will start to trek uphill for about an hour to a view point which offers the magical view of Ganesh Himal, Gosainkunda rang and Goljang valley. After this trek downhill to Goljang valley for about an hour where we will have our lunch. After walking continuous three hours from Goljang we will be at village of Gatlang. Gatlang is a beautiful village inhibited by Tamang ethnic community. As soon as you get there local people will welcome you with Khada and homemade drinks. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 4: Trek to Tatopani; 7hours
The trek starts with a downhill walk to Thangbuchet which is situated near Chilime village near Bhotekoshi River. After having lunch here we will again start us by climbing up and crossing the suspension bridge. Soon after crossing the suspension bridge walk uphill to Tatopani. As you reach there drench yourself in the hot water spring present and get relaxed. Locals here believe that washing in hot water heals your wounds and pains. Stay overnight in local teahouse.

Day 5: Trek to Thuman(2338m); 5-6hours
the trail goes down to Nagthali Danda(3300m) which ultimately leads to open alpine meadow offering amazing view of snow capped Himalayas. We will have our lunch in Brimdang village and again continue the trek downhill to Nagthali Danda. Here one can enrich oneself spending sometime witnessing the beautiful view and have tea offered by the care taker of Gompa. After this trek downhill to Tibetan influenced Tamang village of Thuman for overnight stay.

Day 6: Trek to Briddim(2229m); 5-6hours
The walk begins with the downhill walk to Timure which falls in the old trade route to Tibet. We will have our lunch here and again begin walk to Briddim which is an Tibetan influenced Tamang village. Home-stay here is a unique experience as all the accommodation and food are offered at the individual houses on the rotational basis.

Day 7: Trek to Lama Hotel(2470m); 6hours
Leaving Briddim behind us we will walk downhill along the ridge on Syabru’s main street and then go down to Ghopche Khola(2050m). The trail again goes down to Rimche through the bamboo forest finally taking us to Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel is situated in the bank of Langtang River and is surrounded by lush forests and mountains.

Day 8: Trek to Langtang Village(3430m); 5hours
Mesimerized by the view of Langtang rang in the trail we will continue our trek to the Langtang village. The house here are of flat roofed which is commonly seen in Tibetan settlement.

Day 9: Trek to Kyangjin Gompa(3870m); 3hours
Crossing several streams and moraines we will finally arrive to Kyangjin. On the way one can see the glaciated valley of Kyangjin placed in the lap of Langtang Lirung, Doje Lakpa and other snow capped mountains. In Kyangjin there is small cheese factory and a cheese factory. If you visit there in monsoon you can find the various species of Himalayan flora.

Day 10: Trek to Lama Hotel(2740m); 6hours
Retrace your path back following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village. After having lunch in Ghora Tablea go downhill through the bushes and wild forest to the Lama Hotel.

Day 11: Trek to Syabrubesi(1450m); 5hours
We will continue the walk experiencing the wilderness, viewing the beautiful and panoramic view of mountains and green hills and witnessing the culture and tradition of Tamang community. The first of the trail goes gradually down and goes steeply downward to Syabrubesi.

Day 12: Drive back to Kathmandu; 8hours
Enjoy the scenic and relaxed drive back to Kathmandu with the views of hills, mountains, terraced and villages. As you arrive to Kathmandu check in to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 13: Free day at Kathmandu
Since you have returned from a long trek get relaxed and take rest. You too can do some family shopping or roam around the streets of Thamel.

Day 14: Farewell
Drive to airport at the time of departure for your onward flight.
