Overview
Kailash tour via Simikot grants a unique type of trekking experience through the remote land of this mysterious territory. The trek goes to Mt Kailash and Lake Mansarovar via hidden Humla valley. The trek offers the magnificent mountain panorama including Mt Everest, Mt Kailash, numerous ancient cities, lush valleys, striking landscape and many Tibetan monasteries.
We will start with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepaljung and then to Simikot. Simikot is situated in far western region of Nepal. From Simikot we will travel west to Yari and cross a high pass at Nara La and then descend to Humla Karnalai and then reach the border village of Hilsa and Khojarnath. From here we will drive to Taklakot which is region’s most happening trading center.
Following the Zangpo River we will start the mystifying journey to Mt Kailash. Mt Kailash with the altitude of 6,740m is situated to the north of Himalayan barrier within Tibet. Having magnificent four faces Mt Kailash also has spiritual importance to Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Jain and Bonpo. Tibetans called it Khang Rimpoche( precious jewel of Snow) as they refer it as the navel of world.
In the south of Mt Kailash in the lap of regal Mt Gurla Mandhata are situated two lakes of Mansarovar and Rakshas which are highest bodies of fresh water. Among these two Mansarovar(4558m) has more religious importance among Hindu and Buddhist. The unique blend of culture, tradition and natural beauty makes this tour more mesmerizing and self enriching.
Itinerary Detail
Day 1: Kathmandu Arrival
As you land to the airport our representative will receive you and transfer to the hotel. Check into hotel and get freshen up. Stay overnight at hotel.
Day 2: Fly to Nepalgunj
We will start the trip with a 90minutes flight to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is a small town in the sub tropical lowlands in the Terai region in the Nepal India border.
Day 3: Fly to Simikot(2910m) and trek to Dharapuri(2250m; 4-6hours)
We will take a 50minutes flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot witnessing the regal view of Himalayas. Simikot lies in the Humla which is Nepal’s most remote yet beautiful district. From Simikot we will start the trek through the barley fields, forested ridges, walnut and apricot trees to the beautiful village of Dharapuri for overnight stay.
Day 4: Trek to Sallikhola(2700m); 6hours
Following the river and witnessing the waterfalls we will enter a large potato and buckwheat valley. After passing a pine forest we will make a short descent to our campsite which is situated along the river.
Day 5: Trek to Muchu(3120m); 6hours
After crossing the rocky ridge we will get to a sandy meadows and widespread valleys. In the path we will come along many Yak herders. In the afternoon the goes above the river and over a bridge and arrive to the village of Muchu for overnight stay.
Day 6: Trek to Sipsip((4300m); 6hours
From Muchu the trail goes over the ridge to Tumkot Khola and again goes along the rocky stream and begins a steep uphill climb through a rock filled gully. Continuing again we will pass Palbang and yellow mustard fields of Yari and the trail goes uphill towards a pass and the Nara Lagna. Ultimately we will camp below the pass in a meadow known as Sipsip.
Day 7: Trek to Hilsa(3720m); 6hours
Early in the morning we will make a steep ascent to Nara Lagna pass. The top of the pass offers the amazing view of Tibetan plateau. Passing the traders with their sheep’s and goats we will end our day’s trip with a rocky slide down to Humla Karnali.
Day 8/9: Trek to Lake Mansarovar(4558m)
We will start with a steep climb to Sher which is a Tibetan salt trading post. From here we will drive to Purang which is also known as Taklakot. Taklakot is situated at the altitude of 3930m. In the way we will visit Khojarnath where a large red Gompa is located. We will end our day’s drive in Chiu Gompa. In the tenth day of our trip we will acclimatize ourselves with high altitude. In the afternoon we will explore the caves in the area and dip ourselves in the Holy Mansarovar.
Day 10: Drive to Darchen
Today we will enjoy 2hours drive to Darchen. Darchen is a collection of building within walled compound making itself the gateway to Mt Kailash.
Day 11: Trek to Diraphuk; 7hours 7km
After having the breakfast we will drive to Tarboche which is the starting point of Kailash Parikrama. From Tarboche we will start the enthralling walk through rocky cliffs, waterfalls witnessing the Holy Kailash we will finally arrive to Diraphuk for overnight stay.
Day 12: Trek to Zutrulphuk
Initially we will Climb Drolma La (18600ft) and at the second half we will descend to Zuthulpuk(4760m) passing Yamasthal and Shiva Sthal. Today is the most difficult day of the trek as it includes intense uphill climbing. On the way we will come across Parvatisthal and Gauri Kunda. By the end of the afternoon we will reach Zutrulphuk which is considered as the cave of Miracles.
Day 13: Trek back to Darchen 4-5hours; 14km
Early in the morning we will do some sightseeing explore the caves, temples and Shrine located around. After this we will start to walk gradually out of the valley for around three hours and arrive to Trangser Trangmar where our driving crew will be waiting. We will catch the ride and drive back to Darchen for overnight stay.
Day 14: Drive to Paryang
Early in the morning we will continue our overland journey witnessing the most panoramic view in the earth to Paryang. Stay overnight at hotel in Paryang.
Day 15: Drive to Saga; 230km
Today we will retrace our patch back through the small dusty towns to Saga. Stay overnight at hotel.
Day 16: Drive to Nyalam- Zangmu
Today we will cover another 240km by driving to Zangmu which is a small town located in Nepal Tibet border.
Day 17: Drive back to Kathmandu
Cross the Nepal Tibet border following the Araniko Highway we will cross Friendship Bridge and finally arrive to Kathmandu where our journey finally comes to an end.
