A chance to get up close to the world’s 5th highest mountain via a difficult and long, but spectacular, camping trek. The route goes through some of Nepal’s wildest and most remote country, with fantastic views along the way and perhaps seeing snow leopards, blue sheep and red panda as well.
This trek is centered in the lush, sub-tropical Arun Valley in eastern Nepal. It then climbs into the Makalu-Barun National Park, which has 5 bioclimatic zones, ranging from tropical to alpine. For that reason the park is home to more than 3000 species of flowering plants, 440 species of birds and 75 species of mammals, making this trek a true nature-lover’s delight.
Because camping is allowed only in designated areas, there are two days where the elevation gains exceed the recommended maximum. For this reason, be on guard for early symptoms of AMS. For those with more time, the trek can be started by trekking from Lukla to Tumlingtar (9 days).
