Overview

Trekking and high mountains are what many people think of when the word “Nepal’ is mentioned. Yet Nepal is also blessed with a lowland area that is rich in wildlife and is a great destination on its own or as a ‘reward’ for a trek well done. This amazing area is called Chitwan, which means ‘Heart of the Jungle’ and it offers a wide variety of activities from jungle safaris, to walking, relaxing, riding elephants and much more.

The heart of the area is the Royal Chitwan National Park and it should be on everyone’s list as a place to visit. This beautiful nature reserve, which is more than 900 sq. km of sal forest, water marshes and grasslands, is home to rhino, tigers, leopards, dolphins, crocodiles and a rich variety of birdlife.  There are also monkeys, elephants, sloth bears, wild boar, deer, hyenas and more than 60 species of butterflies.

There are many ways to explore the park. The most popular are the jungle safaris on elephant, walking safaris and canoeing.  In addition there is an Elephant Breeding Centre, which is a must-see for anyone who has yet to be enchanted by a baby elephant.

Itinerary Detail

Jungle Safari Tour Itinerary:

Day 01: Kathmandu

A representative from WildPath Adventure will welcome you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Free afternoon/evening.

Day 02: Kathmandu

After breakfast, enjoy a pleasant morning walk and visit to the ancient Swayambhunath or Monkey Temple, which is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Buddhist religions. From the top you can see the surrounding Kathmandu Valley. Then visit Pashupatinath, the most important Hindu temple in Nepal. After lunch, visit the famous Durbar Square in Kathmandu. In the evening, we will have a welcome dinner and a chance for you to view traditional Nepali dancing.

Day 03: Chitwan

Leaving Kathmandu behind, we will drive over the snake-like mountain pass, along the way catching glimpses of snowy peaks and the valleys far below. Turning off the main highway, we will then break our driving journey to enjoy an exciting rafting trip down the Trisuli River. We’ll have lunch on the sandy banks of the river and then continue through several more Class III rapids before being picked up to finish the drive to Chitwan. After settling into your spacious room at the Jungle Resort, walk to the nearby river and watch the sun setting tranquilly over the grasses and jungle. In the evening, after dinner, enjoy a visit to the Chitwan Cultural Centre and watch a delightful program of ethnic dancing and song.

Day 04: Chitwan

After a leisurely breakfast on the banks of the river, we will head off for an Elephant Safari.  Sitting safely high atop one of these gentle and intelligent giants is an amazing experience to be savored slowly as you keep an eye out for rhino, leopard and crocodiles. In the afternoon, we’ll walk along the river to watch the elephants getting bathed.  You can even join in the fun – if you dare! We’ll then go to the Elephant Breeding Centre where you will have a chance to see up close very young and very curious elephants and their mothers.

Day 05: Chitwan

Today you will have the opportunity to see the jungle on foot. Walking through the tall grass and sal forest gives you a very different perspective of the Park and the animals that call it home. The walking safaris are a particularly good way to bird-watch. After lunch, we’ll take a leisurely canoe ride on the river, keeping an eye out for muggers and crocodiles, which inhabit the nearby shores.

Day 06: Kathmandu

Saying goodbye to Chitwan, we will drive back to Kathmandu, where you will have the afternoon free for shopping, relaxing or exploring Kathmandu. We will have a farewell dinner together, enjoying traditional Nepali food and dance.

Day 07: Final Departure

After checking out from your hotel, transfer to airport or next destination. We will say Namaste and look forward to seeing you next time.
