Overview
Manaslu which is also known as Kutang with the altitude of 8163m is the eighth highest peak in the globe. The literal meaning “Mountain of Spirit” comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa which means “intellect” or “soul”. Situated in the edge of one of the most isolated Himalayan valleys in the central western Nepal in the Mansiri Himal; Manaslu is the 4th most dangerous 8000m peak. Mt Manaslu expedition can also be done as the alternative of Cho Oyu expedition as some climbers say that Manaslu expedition is better option for mountaineering than Cho Oyu for training to get accustomed for Everest expedition in next trip.
Manaslu with its long ridges and glaciers valleys offers feasible approaches from all directions that lead us to the peak. ToDay there are at least six different routes to Manaslu among these south face has the toughest climbing history. The climbing route is relatively basic to the summit along with some technical sections. Though the first attempt to the peak was made in 1953; it was successfully summated in 1956 by a Japanese team.
Generally, four camps are set up during Manaslu expedition after Advanced Base Camp. After base camp the climber has to pass through series of steep climbing and crevasses from Camp I to Camp II. From Camp II the path is slippery and a bit of snow climbing is required to Camp III. From Camp III to Camp Iv the path is quite challenging and you may face avalanches.
While walking here, ten peaks of over 6,500m are visible, including peaks of over 7,000m. as you conquer the summit all the physical and mental stress seem to be petite against the absolute delight of the experience.
