The Dolpo region is seriously off the beaten path and has far fewer tourist facilities. In return, it offers fascinating and difficult treks that provide some of the best adventures to be found in Nepal. The trek is made up of beautiful lakes, ancient monasteries and spectacular high passes. In Dolpo you will find isolated Tibetan-like culture, and amazing plant and wildlife variety. Many people go there initially to seek the elusive snow leopard, but return for the astonishing beauty of this area.
The Outer Dolpo region has many trekking options. Four routes are described here, which can be combined to form longer treks. All the routes are remote and tough and require a high degree of self-reliance, as well as the use of experienced and knowledgeable guides. The Inner Dolpo trek goes into a restricted area, and as such it is considerably longer and more expensive than the others.
The access towns for these treks are either Jumla or Dunai. It will take at least 2 days to reach either of these towns from Kathmandu. Another alternative is to walk from Beni, which takes about 2 weeks. Beni is easily reached from Pokhara.
