At 8167m, Dhaulagiri is the 7th highest mountain in the world and the 6th highest in Nepal. While most travelers are drawn to the Everest and Annapurna regions, there is much to recommend the Dhaulagiri area. There is the magical Dolpo region to the west and the amazingly deep gorges to the east. Within the area are 7 summits over 7200m, several smaller, non-technical peaks and 2 worthy passes to cross.
The area offers incredible scenery, huge glaciers, awesome views of some of the world’s most beautiful mountains and a true sense of remoteness and wilderness. However, trekking in this region is tougher and more demanding than many of the other popular destinations.
The quickest and easiest way to reach this region is by a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which also makes a delightful endpoint after a strenuous trek in the Dhaulagiri region.
