Overview

Ama Dablam with the altitude of 6812m is one of the most beautiful snow capped pyramid shaped peak lying in the Everest region. Known as the most technical and difficult ascent it is popular among the climbers for its spectacular beauty. Standing regally just above the Tengboche monastery to the south of Everest and Lhotse it is distinguished by the steep vertical walls and sharp exposed ridges.

Ama Dablam with its exquisite set-up along the popular trekking route to Everest Base Camp demands good skill of rock climbing, ice climbing, sufficient experience of high altitude and technical proficiency. Ama Dablam is the third most appreciated Himalayan peak where expedition is permitted. The usual route to climb the peak is from its South- West ridge. The summit of Ama Dablam offers the panoramic view of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu and Everest.

The climb is done by setting three camps along the ridge from above the base camp. The first day of climb from the base camp to Camp I is most difficult as you have to go through the most toughest and difficult passing along the saddle ridges and then goes north through the rocky path and camp at the altitude of 5725m. From Camp I the climb continues along the ridges with fixed ropes line which crosses rocky area ultimately taking us to Camp II and then to the top of Yellow tower. The route from Camp II changes slightly with steep mixed rock and snow. First step of climb goes through the steep alpine rock climbing ultimately leading to Camp III.

BASE CAMP: Base camp is situated in a grassy meadow which offers the magnificent mountain views.

TO YAK CAMP (5400m): We will use Yaks to carry our goods and equipments to carry in these portions. We will walk for around 3-4hours from the base camp to get here. The path is a rocky terrain.

CAMPI: Camp I is just at the distance of one an half hour walk from the base camp. The walk is quite easy through the rock cairns. The walk involves boulder hopping and some easy scrambling. In some portions we will fix ropes that are used as a handrail.

CAMPI- CAMPII (6000m): this portion involves only rock climbing depending upon the season. Following a narrow ridge we continue by traversing on rock, so good skill of rock climbing is necessary. Camp II is situated on the top of Yellow tower in a narrow platform. Camp II is known for the irresistible Mountain View it offers.

CAMPII- CAMPIII (6300m): the walk from Camp II to Camp III comprises of hardest and most difficult snow and ice path and we follow steep snow and ice gullies to join a trait called Mushroom Ridge accompanied by majestic Himalayas in the backdrop. The ridge is not much technically difficult but the gullies leading up to it are challenging. Further little walk from the ridge ultimately takes us to camp III.

CAMP III: though the place is very windy it is the only safe flat piece of land near within the range of summit.

SUMMIT DAY: We will start through the right of an ice cliff and then go through a moderately steep slope which is often iced. As we pass this we will move towards the center and the angle of the slope decreases and with few of tough walk finally takes us to the summit. From the summit one can witness five of the World’s six highest peaks along with many other 7000m peaks.
