Overview

Sunkoshi River often said as the River of gold is regarded as one of the best rivers in the world to raft.  It is considered as the best river for long rafting covering the distance of 270km. the raft starts from Dolalghat and ends in Chatara. The raft introduces you to one of the fine white water adventure while you raft through the rapids like meat grinder, High anxiety, jaws and big dipper. Depending upon the season the trip takes from 7 to 9 days.

The raft through the Sun Koshi River is very thrilling and exciting as the scenery and landscape changes day to day making each day different. The trip begins with the glimpse of Himalayas which takes us to the open valleys, forests, villages and ultimately to the open plains.

As we begin the raft the rapids are of grade3 which are fairly relaxed giving an opportunity to develop great teamwork. As the Sun Koshi makes its way the size of the rapids increases and the sight of raft being swirled in the furious water is so tempting that the villagers cannot take their eye off. Sun Koshi river raft known for its peaceful stretches and stunning scenery accompanied by challenging rapids lefts you with a adventurous imprint.

Itinerary Detail

Sunkoshi River Rafting Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu Arrival

In airport our local representative will receive you and get transferred to the hotel. In hotel you will freshen up have some food and drive to our office for the briefing of your trip.

Day 2: Drive to Dolalghat and Raft to Tarang gaon

Early in the morning after having breakfast we will catch our ride to Dolalghat. This 2.5hours of ride takes us our starting point of our rafting adventure. Upon arrival our lunch will be served and our expedition leader will brief us about the safety measures and types of rapid we will encounter with. From starting point today we will raft to Tarang gaon. Today’s raft is quite relaxed one which introduces us to beautiful waterfalls, bat caves and Shiva temple.

Day 3: Raft to Dumja Village

Today we will approximately raft for around four hours. While rafting down the river we can see villagers gathering in the river banks and cheering for us. Slowly the raft starts to gain velocity and we will move forward leaving Langtang ranges behind us. Very soon after we enter the river we will come along a technical rapid called Khuei Bhai which is strewn with rocks and boulders. Stay Overnight in Dumja village near a Shiva temple.

Day 4: Raft to Khurkot

Today we will raft for approximately six hours. in Today’s wet and wild  raft we will be hitting the furious rapids and pass the village of Kodari and Chamera Bhir where we will see hundreds of bats. Some fun filled rapids ultimately take us to Khunkot where we will camp for night.

Day 5: Raft to Likhu Khola

Today we will raft for five hours which introduces us to villages settled by Rai ethnic people and exciting rapids. We will come along a long class 4rapid having a large hole on the left halfway and a sequence of holes in the bottom.

Day6: Raft to Harkapur

Today’s six hours of raft takes us through the deep gorges encompassing thrilling rapids.  We will come along big and enticing one Harkapur2 and 3 rapids which are the hardest rapid on the whole trip. So, we can say that today’s raft is quite challenging. On the way we can see Langur and Rhesus monkey romping in the riverbanks.

Day 7: Raft to Rai Ghat

Today we will raft for approximately for six hours and is very exciting as well as challenging day of the expedition serving some swirling rapids like Bridge rapids and Krishna rapids. After few kilometers from here we can see the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Sun Koshi. We too will come along a rapid named Mangal rapid which was named after Mangal Gurng who was the first rafter to raft Sunkoshi in 1979.

Day 8: Raft to Bander Ghat

Today we will raft for around six hours. We will pass the rapid in Sap Su khola which has the greatest drop holes and eddies and stopper waves which demands great team work and are hard to paddle.

Day 9: Raft to Bonjur Ghat

Today we will raft approximately for six hours which takes us to raging rapids. From Mardheku gorge the river spreads wide and flows quite gently being confined between steep cliffs and gorges.

Day 10: Raft to Barahchhetra

Today’s six hours raft is a fine blend of fun filled rapids and undulated floats. We too will come along the confluence of Arun and Tamor River.

Day 10: Raft to Chatara and Fly to Kathmandu

A short raft takes us to Chatara which is the end point of our white water adventure. After having lunch there we will catch a ride to Biratnagar and fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 11: Farewell

At the time of your flight, transfer to Tribhuwan International Airport for you onward Journey.
